Treasure Island 1950 – Front of House Stills

I keep coming back to this film – made by Walt Disney at Denham Film Studios

These Front of House Stills are really striking with their colour – however I think the two below must have been from a later release

Yes, Neil, the later Front of House stills are from the 1972 reissue set (I have the complete set of eight) when it went out as the lower half of a reissue double bill with Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty”.

Thanks David. I didn’t know when it was re-issued or that it was on a double bill with ‘Sleeping Beauty’ but the FOH Stills are wonderful and very glossy. This must have happened with ‘The Story of Robin Hood’ because I have both sets and the originals were much more muted in colour but still good.
You will remember the second release in 1972 which I can’t recall but it is then that some of the scenes were cut – one I always mention is when Blind Pew goes under the wheels of the coach outside the ‘Admiral Benbow’ Inn. That and other scenes that were cut have never been put back in much to my irritation. It is a film I really like though. Beautifully made as was ‘The Story of Robin Hood’. Thanks, Neil

I have the 1971 reissue set for ‘The Story of Robin Hood’, where it went out on a double bill with Disney’s ‘Scandalous John’ and they are beautiful real colour photos.

At three years of age in 1950, I was too young to see ‘Treasure Island’ on its initial release, but I did get to see it twelve years later in 1962. However, I can’t remember if the Blind Pew being hit by the coach scene was in it back then.
